Engineering for PV production and greater synergy

The company J. v. G. Thoma GmbH is a turnkey deliverer of PV production lines for producing PV modules.

Hans Thoma founded J. v. G. Thoma GmbH in 1997 to design and construct special machines, soldering plants and automatic coating devices. Entry into the photovoltaic industry took place just one year later, initially for thin layer technology. In 2000, J. v. G. supplied turnkey sub-plants for the production of crystalline cells and modules, particularly stringers and layups. The first complete plant was constructed in 2001. Since 2003 J. v. G. Thoma has also operated as a consultant for everything to do with “turnkey production plants for photovoltaics”.

Meanwhile large companies all over Europe, America and Asia operate plants and make use of the services supplied by J. v. G. Thoma, which has its headquarters in Freystadt.

“We do not exclusively supply turnkey factories. Rather, our job is complete plant technology right up to the interface of power supply, compressed air, water and sewage connections,” explains Hans Thoma, manager of J. v. G. Thoma GmbH in Freystadt. “We offer our customers a solid process – Made in Germany – a process which works using up to four of our own patents.”

Consultancy and services

An important part of our business activity is to provide turnkey solutions and consultancy, according to requirements, for business plans, factory layouts, economic viability analysis and complete engineering services right up to project management. In addition, we are equally active in the purchase and sale of solar cells, solar modules and ingots.

Synergy in the group

“The fact that 15 family members and their children work in the J. v. G. Thoma Group has, to date, only had a positive impact,” states Hans Thoma. “Together we have access to everything connected to photovoltaic production; we have processes and we have a lot of certificates and many patents in the machine and product area.”

Prospects

Naturally the Thoma Group is also expanding its process and service portfolio step by step and its sights are particularly set on start-up companies in Europe, but also those in the USA, Canada etc. “We still have many ideas in reserve,” says Hans Thoma, “whether it is increasing the degree of effectiveness of a module, designing high temperature modules for ‘hot regions’ or cooling modules, and so on.”
