Semilab Semiconductor Physics Laboratory Co. Ltd.

For all your measurement needs

Metrology tools are becoming key components in photovoltaic manufacturing as they help in the early detection of defective material or erroneous processing. This results in a more efficient production process and a significant increase in yield.

Semilab is a dynamically growing company with a global presence and a thorough knowledge of the solar industry. The company designs, manufactures and sells metrology equipment for the characterization of photovoltaic (and semiconductor) materials and for monitoring during the manufacturing process of solar cells and semiconductor devices, as well as for R&D.

Semilab is committed to supplying its customers with a wide range of tools capable of performing nearly all necessary measurements needed in photovoltaic manufacturing. A complete suite of electrical and optical characterization methods is available for testing starting materials and process control: ?PCD minority carrier lifetime and eddy current resistivity measurements are widely accepted in the industry for qualifying silicon wafers, and electrical methods are complemented by a full visual inspection to check shape, edges, contamination, microcracks, saw marks and other surface defects. Various techniques can be used to control critical process steps, such as sheet resistance measurement after emitter diffusion or laser ellipsometry after nitridation. High resolution LBIC mapping is also available for testing the final product. For thin-film panels, Semilab offers spectroscopic ellipsometry, reflectivity, haze, transmission and sheet resistance for panels up to 5th generation. With this extensive portfolio, Semilab meets the needs of the most advanced companies in all segments of the PV market.

Measurement techniques are predominantly non-contact and non-destructive, and can be flexibly integrated into different platforms, ranging from simple handheld devices to fully-automated systems with high resolution mapping. Most of them are also available in tools or modules integrated into production lines.

The company strategy is product evolution through continuous improvement and to offer flexible solutions for customers’ needs with reasonably priced, high-value added products. To accomplish this, Semilab employs more than 70 physicists and 90 engineers and participates in various collaborative R&D projects worldwide.
